Cultures or Race, Class and Ethnic Relations. The courses for the American Sign Language Interpreting program are very comprehensive at Gosham College.

The American Sign Language Interpreting program has many required courses that prepare students for real-world interpreting. The Deaf Community, Church & Religion explores the variety of the deaf community's experiences with churches and religion. There are models of ministry and mission in the deaf community that are presented and critiqued. Out-of-class visits to local deaf ministries are required.

Goshen College offered its first classes in its new bachelor's degree American Sign Language Interpreting program the fall of 2002. The program is designed to prepare graduates for a professional interpreting career.

It is also designed for students to use their American Sign Language skills in service to the community and the church. Gosham College is a Christ-centered college and service to church and community is stressed.

The minor American Sign Language Interpreting program is for students who want to expand their language skills and cultural knowledge. This can be to enhance other majors, such as ministry, education and social work.

This program enables students to develop an appreciation and understanding of the way in which people in the deaf community live, think and communicate and so that they can develop basic American Sign Language skills.
