an exact diagnosis and treatment planning. Some of the treatments that may be used are filling cavities, removing the nerve endings in teeth, treating any disease in the gun area of the mouth, removing rotten or unrepairable teeth and replacing lost teeth with dentures.
In the days of old, dentistry was often painful and sometimes fatal. Today we make use of anesthesia to numb any pain and make an easier exam and treatment for the patient. Cavities in the teeth can be filled with gold, silver, cements, amalgam and with fused porcelain inlays. Dentists treat diseases of the mouth and gums and often use preventative dentistry. Preventative dentistry is when you go see your dentist often enough to be able to detect early stages of teeth and gum disease and heal the problem before it becomes unhealable.
In the year two thousand and one some archaeologists were studying the remains of two men from Mehrgarh, Pakistan. They discovered that the culture of the Indus Valley Civilization, three thousand three hundred BC, had knowledge of medicine and dentistry. The physical anthropologist that carried out the examination was Professor Andrea Cucina who discovered this when he was cleaning one of the men’s teeth. Evidence showed later that the teeth were drilled dating back over nine thousand years.
While studying dentistry, dentists will learn to demonstrate the proper use of tools such as the toothbrush and floss. They can also learn to let the patient know what foods are healthy for the teeth and mouth in general. Fluoride, which is a poison in a large amount, is used to treat decay and is commonly used in toothpaste. For those that brush more than twice a day it is recommended that you not use a toothpaste brand that has fluoride since you can become very ill from the affects of this poison.
